Fairfax County Ordenance
As of Jan 1, 2023 residents in Fairfax County are required by county ordinance to contain running bamboo plantings within their property line. If plantings are not contained, homeowners can be fined. The ordinance calls for a barrier to be installed 30" below ground and 6" above ground to contain the plant. For more information and the most accurate and up-to-date guidance please see the official county website.
Barrier Options
HDPE (high density polyethylene) is the preferred bamboo containment material due to it's flexibility, strength and long lifespan. We recommend a 60 or 80 mil barrier with a height of 36".
